VoIP Telephony

voip telephony

Voice over IP (VoIP) Telephony solutions.

VoIP telephony refers to Voice Over Internet Protocol. VoIP telephony converts analog voice data to digital signals that are sent in packets using IP rather than by traditional phone system circuit transmissions. VoIP phones connect directly to an IP network using technologies such as wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

This telephone communication technology does not necessarily mean that there is a dependance on the internet to make calls, but rather that VoIP uses the same language (IP) that computer networks use - giving businesses the ability to place calls across the internet, local/private networks, or virtually any computer network.

Advantages of VoIP

When it comes to corporate telephony solutions, the primary advantages of VoIP include features, cost (total cost of ownership) and R&D.

Features: VoIP offers a wide range of features such as the ability to have an at-home extension off a business PBX for teleworkers, getting copies of voicemail messages as WAV file attachments in email, and smartphone applications that allow users to receive calls to office lines on cell phones instead.

Cost: VoIP allows both voice and data communications to be run over a single network using the same cat5 or cat6 computer network cabling, which can significantly reduce infrastructure costs. Additional cost benefits include the ability to perform much of your own MAC (moves, adds and changes) via a user friendly web-based interface, as well as lowered phone service costs utilizing SIP trunks. Today, many companies utilize teleworkers as a way to lower overhead by not having to give an employee a physical on-premise seat to work in.

R&D: Bandwidth efficiency and lower costs are the reasons nearly 100% of industry R&D dollars are going towards VoIP telephony systems and applications - leading businesses to migrate from traditional telephone systems to VoIP systems to increase productivity while reducing monthly phone costs.
